Goshen Depression Years
During the depression- there were a lot of people travelling just looking for a place to eat or sleep. “My mother never turned anyone away”, said Chesley Feltmate. They lived off the main road at 8 Island Lake and he wonders how they ever found their house. Lots of time you would find someone sleeping in the hay in the morning-lots of peddlers came through that area too.
“Mother would borrow a shirt from the peddler and draw the pattern off it onto a flour bag and then give the shirt back the next time the peddler was there,” Chesley recalls. Everybody worked together in the communities and helped each other out.
