Upper Big Tracadie Infrastructure
Telephones reached Upper Big Tracadie in the early 1960′s. The phones were on the party line system which is an arrangement when 2 or more costumers use the same local loop. This resulted in frequent interruptions of conversations and breaks in service.
The community got power circa 1956. Prior to that oil lamps brought light, wood brought heat and hard work brought water.
Upper Big Tracadie has never had it’s own Fire Department. It has been serviced by the Monastery Fire Department since it’s inception in 1969. Prior to that, the people depended on one another to help battle any conflagrations that might occur.
