Reel Gems Deluxe online slot game
Developed by Microgaming, Reel Gems Deluxe is a 5x3 slot that the review says can award up to 1,000x the stake, or £100,000. It is the 10-year-old follow-up to Reel Gems and returns to the original's gemstone setting. Although its 20 win ways are well below the original's 243 paylines, its bonus features can create additional opportunities for substantial wins rather than guaranteeing them.
Theme and storyline
The Reel Gems Deluxe slot was originally designed for Microgaming by independent studio Alchemy Gaming. Like the original Reel Gems video slot, it centres on a gemstone theme.
Graphics, sounds and animations
The visual presentation and animations are fairly modest, although they represent a clear step up from Reel Gems. Players accustomed to strikingly detailed slot graphics may find the design underwhelming. Its layout is simple but bright, with gemstones providing most of the colour, while the electronic soundtrack suits the pace of play.
Top Casinos to Play Reel Gems Deluxe:
Gameplay
Reel Gems Deluxe plays on a 5x3 grid with four low-paying card symbols, four high-value coloured gems and two feature symbols. The diamond is the Scatter, while the game logo functions as the Wild. Both sit among the most valuable symbols in this classic video slot.
The gemstone selection also includes emeralds, rubies and additional diamonds. These symbols suit the game's intended sense of luxury and elegance, even though the overall presentation remains straightforward.
Bonuses and Free Spins
Radiant Spin: This randomly triggered feature is described as offering a 1000x multiplier on the stake. It can form up to 20 paying combinations, with wilds and gems appearing on the last two reels while the first two are stacked.
Free Spins: Landing 3 or more Scatters activates the Free Spins bonus and awards up to 10 extra rounds. The Radiant Trail can then provide quicker, larger win multipliers ranging from 40x to 1,000x the wager. Landing gems moves you along the trail, with progress varying according to the count. Fortunate players may also land giant 3x3 symbols covering reels 3, 4, and 5, potentially improving returns. Giant wilds and the Retrigger icon are also available, with the latter providing more symbols from the Radiant Trail.
Hyperspin: As with other slots from Microgaming, Reel Gems Deluxe includes Hyperspin. This feature lets you pay to respin any reel, with the price determined by the likelihood of creating a winning combination.
Bet sizes, RTP and variance
Bets range from 0.20 to 100.00, while the stated maximum payout potential is 1,000x the stake. Reel Gems Deluxe is listed with a medium volatility rating and an RTP of 96.36%, creating what the review describes as a relatively uneven balance between risk and potential reward.
Conclusion
Following its 2010 predecessor, the 2020 Reel Gems Deluxe slot is presented as most appealing for its potential Free Spins wins. Its high volatility does not make valuable hits impossible, and the review portrays it as less volatile than the very highest-variance games.
